Churches and Sacred Places
Vallagarina’s churches, sanctuaries and hermitages reveal the vast variety of sacred art in Trentino. Visitors of churches in the main urban centers such as San Marco and San Giovanni Battista in Rovereto and Santa Maria dell’Assunta in Villa Lagarina, are struck by their impressiveness. The eremo (hermitage) di San Colombano, Santuario di Montalbano or the Santuario della Madonna della Salette stand in places of scenic beauty. The smallness of the churches Sant’Agata in Corniano and Ramanesque San Pietro in Bosco in Ala is not misleading: the buildings of these places of worship conceal a millenary history and frescoes of enormous value.
