Borcola Pass

Located at 1,207 m of altitude, the pass represents the natural eastern border of the Pasubio massif. Place of welcome and remembrance, from which various paths start along the trails of the Great War.

Borcola Pass

The Pass has always represented a border line. This is witnessed by the Lion of San Marco which for centuries marked the political border between the Empire and the Republic of Venice first, and then between Austria and Italy. Today here you can stop at Malga Borcola and visit the small church of the Alpine.

Several paths depart from the Pass, along which it is possible to observe traces and vestiges of the Great War: epigraphs, cableway stations, caves, artillery positions and entrenchments.

Recommended excursions

The paths that start or arrive at the Passo della Borcola are of high naturalistic, historical and cultural interest. In fact, they allow access to places that were the scene of the troubled events of the Great War and to observe the remains of trenches, tunnels and various other military works along the way. Nei boschi e sulle rupi molte volte si possono incontrare e vedere caprioli, camosci e anche cervi. During the spring you can admire the spectacle of the awakening of nature and in the summer savor the warmth of the sun’s rays during a fantastic walk at high altitude.

Malga Borcola

The best way to end a mountain hike is to do it sitting in a cozy hut, where you can taste the typical products of own production. During the summer in Malga Borcola the visitor will find a welcoming place where to taste the dishes of the traditional Trentino cuisine, such as the excellent malga cheeses and fresh ricotta that bring back to the palate all the aromas of the Terragnolo pastures. For the little ones there is also a curious educational path to get to know the animals hosted by the Malga, starting from the geese to the Vietnamese dwarf pig.

The church of the Alpine

Inside the church, built in 1968 with the contribution of the population and the Terragnolo National Alpine Association, there is a marble altar and a statue of the Pilgrim Madonna. On the outside, on a boulder, one of Ugo Foscolo’s maxims is sculpted “A egrege things the soul lights up the urn of the strong”.
