Mulino Zeni
An ancient mill, still perfectly functioning, in Brentonico
Of the more than 1,000 historic mills in the Trentino territory, used to grind cereals, Mulino Zeni is one of the few which still functions perfectly.
Crucial for the rural economy, “Vitruvian” stone mills, were found all over the valleys of Trentino, along small and large waterways. Of the more than 1,000 historic mills that this territory could count around the 1800s, Mulino Zeni, built in 1806 by the Balista Family, is the only water-powered mill still in operation in Valle della Sorna. Here, in the 19th century, a good 20 mills, forges and sawmills were water-powered. The mill was purchased in 1906 by the Zeni family.
Mulino Zeni is equipped with a large cassette wheel and a small iron wheel. Once, it was mostly used for grinding food for the local poultry farming.
Recently restored, this small mill is perfectly operational and open for visits upon reservation.
