Botanic Garden and Fossil Museum
In Brentonico you can discover the flora of Monte Baldo and over 1,000 fossil specimens
Located in the heart of Parco del Baldo, take in the beauties and fragrances of the 3,500 sqm botanical garden and the rich paleontological collection in the evocative Palazzo Baisi.
The Brentonico botanic gardens extend over 3500 sqm in the area behind Palazzo Eccheli Baisi.
It is divided into two areas:
- the Renaissance-style garden
- the natural landscape area
The Renaissance-style garden is arranged on three levels with geometric flower-beds where lavender, officinal herbs and the most characteristic plants of Monte Baldo are grown, and which are sorted according to type:
- endemic species
- edible species
- poisonous species
- ruderal species
In the area reserved for natural landscapes you will find many native species of Monte Baldo divided according to the environment they are found in.
The environments that have been recreated are:
- the thermophilic garden
- the nitrophilous pastureland
- the humid zone
- the subalpine shrubland
- the fern habitat
In Palazzo Eccheli Baisi you will find over 1,000 fossil specimens, gathered within the mountain chain of Monte Baldo Settentrionale.
The paleontological collection documents the existence of animals that lived in marine environments, which succeeded one another circa 150-180 million years post Triassic.
The collection ranges from Protozoan to Crustacean fossils.
Pay special attention to the collection of Gastropods that come from the fossiliferous deposits of Sorne, where 134 species were classified.
