Isera, the land of Marzemino

Discover Isera, on the right bank of river Adige. Visit Corno Castle, the Roman Villa, the Postcard Museum and stroll through the vineyards.

The quiet village of Isera is situated in the hilly territory overlooking the town of Rovereto, to the right of the Adige River, in Vallagarina. This area is well exposed to the sun and sheltered from the wind, perfect for cultivating the Marzemino, autochthonous varietal of Vallagarina. If you pass through this area between the end of September and early October, pay attention to the vineyards surrounding the village. The bunches of grapes have reached full maturity and are ready for the harvest. No effort is ever wasted: every year, “La vigna eccellente” awards a prize to the best vineyard of Marzemino and the most diligent producer.

Go for a stroll in the old town center, you’ll find eighteenth century buildings with frescoed rooms such as Palazzo Fedrigotti, seat of the Town Hall, and Palazzo Vannetti. Lastly Palazzo de Probizer: the headquarters of the Casa del Vino, with mythological Eighteenth century frescoes, is home to art exhibitions, concerts and cultural events.

Places to visit in Isera: the Postcard Museum displays over 35,000 of very rare postcards from all over the world.

Located right in the center of the town, make sure you visit the ruins of a Roman Villa dating back to the first century A.D., this one of a kind building was discovered shortly after the WWII. Then visit Corno Castle, one of the most interesting and evocative fortified settlements in the area, by car, by bike or on foot. In the summer you can see exhibitions and performances, and have something to eat and drink at the seasonal refreshment centers. Don’t forget to gaze at the panorama from here: you will see the remains of Castel Pradaglia, set on a hill overlooking the river Adige.
