In Nature and in Art by Liu Bolin

Temporary exhibition at the Museo Civico di Rovereto

Animals and insects, plants and flowers, but also human beings sometimes pretend to be what they are not. The temporary exhibition ‘Mimicries’ explores the phenomenon of mimicry in nature, but it also broadens its view on man and art, through the fascinating work of Chinese artist Liu Bolin.

Mimicry, a biological phenomenon through which organisms take on shapes and colours similar to those of their surroundings or other living beings, is the leitmotif of the exhibition.Animals and plants make use of this trick to avoid predators, to hide among the surrounding elements or to pass themselves off as something they are not. A biological evolution aimed at surviving, which Liu Bolin transforms into a powerful tool of artistic expression: it presents 7 large artworks from the Gaburro Gallery in Milan, which represent the artist and intertwine with the narrative of the exhibition rooms, bringing with them a human and social value that only art can restore.

The exhibition is promoted by the Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto in collaboration with the Gaburro Gallery in Milan, and curated by museum experts Gionata Stancher, Giulia Tomasi and Tiziano Straffelini.
